“Winnipeg is an old lady. She goes to bed at 9:00 in her nightie with her nightcap and her cup of tea…she’s an old Ukrainian lady who smells of borscht, and eats perogies on a daily basis, and likes to go to socials, and likes to spend a lot of money on things, and that’s what downtown Winnipeg is, it’s just this gaping hole that goes to bed at 9:00. The tumbleweeds rolling through the city, the vacant storefronts that used to be, just so many interesting and cool places to go are just ghetto cash chequing shop bargain bin garbage places…that’s what Winnipeg is, an old lady in her nightie who goes to bed at 9:00 and doesn’t like the music too loud…kids start having fun and she has to rap on the window and tell them to stop and keep it down. ‘Cause she has to get up early. She’s gotta get to her job. Kids start having fun, and she comes around with her little housecoat on, tapping on the door telling the kids to keep it down. That’s what Winnipeg is.”
